

As an NHS manager for over 15 years within primary and secondary care settings, Helen enjoyed a close working relationship with the Rheumatology team at the Haywood Hospital, and was Hospital Manager for Stoke Community Hospitals for 5 years. Julie joined Keele in 2008 as a part time researcher, then Honorary Senior Lecturer and was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2017. She is a fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine and has worked full-time in Pain Medicine since 2009. Dr Ashworth later specialised in Pain Medicine.


After qualifying, she completed specialist training in Anaesthesia, becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and was appointed as a Consultant at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in 1998. Dr Ashworth studied medicine at the Universities of St Andrews (BSc Med Sci.
